Ah yes, God. The first and last argument of a beliver so it's kind of pointless to debate with them.. but still fun.
When Cain murdered Able; he told God that if he left, people would kill him for doing what he did. Where did these people come from?
Maby some of the things in the bible is.. outdated?
"I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?"
PastorJest (guest) - April 28, 2006, 07:25
It depends on whether or not your daughter is a virgin. The "virgin’s dowry" mandated in the Torah is 200 zuzim (or dinarim). The zuz is reckoned at 0.384g of pure silver; therefore, if your daughter is a virgin, 76.8g of silver is an appropriate price (N.B,: the troy ounce is 31.102g). A non-virgin daughter is not assigned a value in the Torah, but the Sages decreed that she should be valued at at least 100 zuzim.
If you don’t know whether your daughter is a virgin you should be ashamed for neglecting your parental responsibilities!!

Evolution has solid EVIDENCE to back up the SCIENTIFIC THEORY. Theology is not a science. Theology cannot offer anything other than testimonial evidence to support the poetic, allegoric and metaphoric STORY of creation. Credible historians will tell you that the events depicted in the bible are not chronologically accurate, credible scientists will agree that there is no evidence that the events depicted in the STORY of creation bare any resemblance to the facts as we understand them now... Genesis says that god created the sun before he created the stars, that he created the earth before the sun... we can all laugh at this seemingly obvious literary blunder thanks to thousands of years of scientific progress in spite of continuing attempts by organised religions to suppress it.
lairdj (guest) - May 20, 2006, 14:52
And now that you're onto Genesis - the bible was written by dyslexic illiterates. They MEANT Guiness...
Funny ad.

Phil (guest) - June 12, 2006, 14:34

You guys realize this is a BEER AD, why do you all have to be so touchy. If an ad used aliens or ghosts to make a joke to sell you liquor are you gunna freak out and argue about there existence? Just chill out and get a sence of humor.

"If an ad used aliens or ghosts to make a joke to sell you liquor are you gunna freak out and argue about there existence?"
Yes, fanatics will just do that. Bet on it. Almost as funny as the ad. ;)
Anonymous (guest) - July 29, 2006, 03:04
Heh, funny ad.
Wow, you guys are really sad... you fight about the existence of god over a beer ad... The world would be better if we all were agnostic.
Wormopolis (guest) - July 29, 2006, 13:02
If we were all agnostic, the middle east would have to start fighting over the price of virgins.

The best thing about the story of creation in the bible is that Adam and Eve had 2 Sons. One was killed by the other, so how the hell did the rest of us got here? Abel did sick things with his mammy or wtf? lol. People take the bible and religion too seriusly. Religion was, is and will be something created by men to control men and teach moral values. All holy scritures are just that, scritures writeng by men, that most likely wanted to have power, over time the stories changed into what they are today, teaching moral values in society.
If you really study religion you will see the atrosities writen in those books. One can only ask if the so forgivable, graetful god that all you fanatics believe in really exists when he lets all the chaos teached in the bible.
God violates his own commands many times in the bible. "Thou shall no kill" , yet he destroys an entire city killing everyone, he also tells the Israelies to kill every living man, women and child in
the conquered cities. Joshua 6:21.
God also gambles, He made a bet with Satan about Job's faith in him. So what does God do? He kills Job's family and take his money. God ruined Job's life for bragging rights.
So don't come her with your religius crap, cos it is all lies! Is bullshit..
navysealltblue - October 22, 2006, 17:36
Incest of course... come on now...
tezence (guest) - December 3, 2006, 00:19
history is bunk, but religion more so...
another philospher (guest) - January 24, 2007, 21:03
if you really study religion? you mean like read their books? if YOU read the book you are questioning, you'd know that Seth was also born from Adam and Eve. :) Do you think that those scribes and teachers 2000, or 3000 years ago, were dumber then you? do you think that they didnt catch the "typo" or "glitch" that you've found in the number of people on earth at the time of this writting? if YOU really studied these religions you might look into the context. the OT, taken from the jewish IS a history. try this.. you know who mitocondrial eve is right? so we can talk about her and her decendants leading to everyone else on this planet scinefitically because we can track the mitocondrial DNA (different then normal cellular DNA) through all women to now adays. this story doesn't talk about those around her though. are the geneticist and histories doing this research IGNORANT of all the other people around her? no, its not part of this story. focus on 1) mitocondrial DNA 2) eve 3) all women 4) a line that is made back to this single woman.
modernists biggest mistake is that they think they are smarter then their predecesors. nothing has changed in the last 4000 years for man. if you read their works you see that they had the same kinds of people around: assholes, idiots, pendantic misanthropes, bloggers, critics, you name it! sure technology changes, but so far, the impact to who we are hasn't. you are NOT smarter then they were. you have different information. if you switched places you'd still have the basic abilities you do now as a human.
i agree with your definition of religion actually. however, there is some theological movements for an areligious christianity. look up bonhoffer to get a start.
not all holy scriptures are written by men, or mankind. and the various ways even men write them down are the whole point of them. ie. the godinspired works of the christian authors vs the absolute words of gabriel in mohammad's ears. that determines an enormous amount of differences between the two. THAT is the beauty of religion. those seemingly small changes determin soooo very much. and if you want to start with "there is no god" so men are fabricating these outta no where.... go back to philosophy of science class first.
as for "one can only ask" sounds like picking on a single religion but you make it sound like all religions are like this. kharma is not about thinking or love, its about doing. wheras something along the lines of bhakti is more about love, not action or thinking...janya=thinking/beliving. these have nothing to do with forgiveness.
"thou shalt not kill" is not the same as "i shall not kill". l2read.
as for your whole tirade about job, satan, a bet, etc. i think some more reading might be in order for context. you seem to think you've found some loophole, some mistake that certain no sane person would put there. but open your mind and try to ask, "how can this make sense".
did you know they found a "computer" thats thousands of years old that can determine the position of the sun, moon, other planets, eclipes, etc. we dont even know what allit can do yet. its 1000 years ahead of its time. currently its rusted, broken and missing a lot since it was in the sea for all this time. so we need to look at it with fresh eyes. imaging is starting to show us what all this thing could have done. we dont start by saying "oh well this isnt the best way i could make this". or "well, this gear is missing, so obviously this thing is lies and crap". its 2000 years old at least, its see a lot of damage. now we need to ask "how can this work". and if you punctuate your point with "is bullshit", you may not be so far from fanaticism yourself.
Tsaebad - January 27, 2007, 20:04
Pure genius. Yaaar. I wanna slap someone now, actually.
Tsaebad - January 27, 2007, 20:10
Had nothing to do with the religion squabble, my previous comment that is. I believe that the common bond between man is love, and even hate is fueled by love at times, causing those to persist in negative demenour to accomplish goals that revolved around what loves you may have. It's all just a way for the creator to introduce himself to several societies, and like the colors in the rainbow, the variety of man is evident. He exists in places where no man could relate to another, in different name and form to guide the peoples everywhere. Jesus in your heart is love in your heart. Buddha preaches peace and love. In the end, we all sit down at the same table, with the same goals. Just follow that love, and look to the Creator for guidance you will find.
Vilxan - February 6, 2007, 20:24
Well, I'm a Buddhist, and I must say, I think people have gotten a bit too worked up about something not really important. Enjoy the video. But, if you want to talk about religion, my say is that it doesn't really matter. The present is the most important time.
